That Andromeda lived and survived in the snakes' den shows plenty of what kind of person Andromeda is. She is cunning and resourceful. A survivor. A woman that can face giants with her head held high and stand for what she believes in, and show no fear. She'd been raised that way, after all. Though she is the quietest of the three Black sisters, she embodies the same type of unwavering spirit that they do. No one dares face Andromeda thinking that they will manage to change her mind.

She is also a woman full of secrets; no one in her immediate circle would have suspected what she'd done, not even family. But it did happen, and she did leave behind her family to be with the man she loved. And there was nothing more important to Andromeda than the love she felt for Ted. She was willing to sacrifice her world, and throw away all that she knew, to be with him.

In this AU, she is just as private as her canon counterpart, but perhaps even more so. She is walking on thin ice, being with Ted in such a tumultuous time for non-purebloods. She fears that making waves might make the situation worse, although she is more than aware that it's past time for someone to do something about it.

A significant chunk of Andromeda's history hasn't changed from the canon-verse. She is still one of the three infamous Black sisters. She got into Slytherin at age 11, two years after the elder sister, Bellatrix. Somewhere along the way, she met a boy named Edward Tonks, a muggle-born — and they fell in love. She threw away all that she learned about prejudice and blood purity, and ran away with him. It led to her exile from the family tree, and seclusion from old friends that she no longer sees eye to eye with.

The difference from canon to this verse starts with Tom Marvolo Riddle gaining power, changing the course of history. Andromeda grew up in a cesspool of bigots that put too much stock on blood purity and status; they loved every bit of his new reforms. Perhaps at one point, Andromeda herself believed everything that she'd taught. She was raised as a pure-blood princess and grew into that role so perfectly, as if nothing could ever break through her opinions. Anyone that knew her back then would say that they never would have suspected her to change her ways. But someone did change her, and Andromeda became disenchanted with the society she lived in, until it all came to a head. While her reasons for leaving were selfish — she only wanted to be with Ted, because she loved him — it's clear that, without the brainwashing brought to her by her overbearing family, Andromeda would not have formed those thoughts and opinions by herself. She changed, and became a better person.

Now, you ask: why is she still not married? Andromeda would have been all to happy to change her name and marry the man she loves, but life is not so kind that way. There's the constant aura of danger at every turn. Muggle-borns disappearing. Then comes a registration act attempting to curb the fear-provoked thoughts and opinions. Then comes the time-displaced witches and wizards. Chaos. Whispers of conspiracy theories. Loud complaints quashed by the iron fist of a Minister that holds the loyalty of many purists, the rich and powerful.

And also: family. Andromeda knows them all too well. Marriage is permanent, unbreakable. Should Andromeda change her name, it will send waves. If she is no longer a Black, she will no longer afforded the same consideration as her family. Disgraced as she is right now, the Black name still strikes fear in the hearts of men. She might have chosen love over her family, but there is one thing Andromeda cannot change about herself: she is a Slytherin. She is resourceful and cunning, and knows the value of power, regardless of how small of one she has now.

NATURAL OCCLUMENS
Unlike with Sirius, no one suspected Andromeda's betrayal from the family. Also, being in Slytherin means quite a lot of wagging tongues, that if anything were to ever occur between Ted and Andromeda, it would have needed to be super clandestine for her part because it wasn't ever safe to date a muggle-born. I think she would have had an underdeveloped skill at the time, which means hiding stuff was easier. Now that she's older, she probably developed the talent upon discovering that she's good at it.

HEALING MAGIC
She is a Senior Mediwizard, which means she's good at her job. Though I imagine that she's far more talented when it comes to surgical fixes, like a field medic. She is basically a 911 first responder.
